We are happy to report the wonderful positive results our partnership with Kind Traveler’s “Every Stay Gives Back” program has done for the Dominican Joe Foundation during our first year collaborating together.
After the first year we have raised $2,736 total funds, which is equivalent to 1,368 days of snacks and juice provided for a student at the school.
In dire need of having an area for students to read and do learning activities, the Dominican Joe Foundation decided to use the given funds to make a school library. This is not only a place for those who are passionate about reading but also provides literacy classes for secondary school students in the mornings and a teacher’s lounge in the afternoons.
“It’s through your support and others that enables us to continue providing educational opportunities to enhance the lives for children here in Las Terrenas. With the help of Sublime Samana guests, we can tackle a project that has been on our wish list for a long time, but until now we have always been short of money. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts!”
-Nicole Bauer, Dominican Joe School Administrator
After finalizing this important project and knowing that we will continue with our partnership, the foundation has found a new project for this school year. They are turning an old kitchen into a small science laboratory, which is required by the Ministry of Education. The foundation will use the donated funds to buy furniture, paint and basic laboratory material such as a microscope, a burner, scales, different containers and, of course, substances for the experiments.
We are excited to see their progress this coming year as we continue our commitment in supporting the Dominican Joe Foundation in partnership with Kind Traveler. We look forward to sharing updates through our social media channels, so make sure to follow us @sublimesamana
