Deemed as the prettiest area of the Hispaniola Island, the Samana Peninsula offers guests a variety of adventures such as hiking through the coconut-covered mountains, snorkeling through the pristine waters or watching the incredible humpback whales frolicking off the coast.
Numerous countries have admired the Samana Peninsula’s potent geography over the years. In fact, there have been at least 5 countries in the past 500 years that have either settle or sought to control the Samana Peninsula, including Spain, Haiti, France, the United States and Germany.
Today, Samana is home to the descendants of these first settlers as well as expats and retirees from various European countries like France and Italy who were looking for their own paradise. While currently there are no direct descendants of the indigenous Taino people after the Spaniards eradicated them in the 16th century, their customs remain deeply rooted in today’s Dominican Republic’s culture and traditions.
Solo travelers, couples and families can all enjoy the wonderful activities at Sublime Samana.
